France The largest producer of quality wine in the world and home to some of the most expensive and sought after names. Although under pressure on world markets from 'new world' varietals, French exports continue to grow. In the Middle Ages, the wines of Tyre, Sidon, and the Bekaa Valley in modern Lebanon, were among the most expensive and sought-after in the world.
