It all started in the 1950s, when Red "Pops" Wilkinson opened a small corner liquor store where one could buy a six-pack of beer, renew a fishing license or pick up a Styrofoam cooler. A lover of all things outdoors, Red named his establishment Sportsman’s Liquors.
For the next 30 years, Sportsman's Liquors serviced the local community, shifting with the times as necessary. In the late 1960’s, with a new owner at the helm, the décor was changed to reflect a penchant for baseball and horse racing. The Daily Forum was always close at hand, as well as the lingering aroma of a half-smoked cigar.
In 1987 Sportsman's Liquors changed ownership again, and with the double mantra of service & selection, the store was transformed. The focus became "fine wine", and a variety of spirits from all over the world, including an incredible selection of Single Malt Scotch. At this time the name was changed to SPORTSMANS Fine Wines & Spirits to reflect the new direction.
Today with the best service and selection in the Phoenix metropolitan area, SPORTSMAN'S is rapidly approaching the twenty year mark. The company continues to flourish and currently offers it services and selections at three locations: the original store at 32nd Street & Camelback; at Arrowhead Ranch, 67th Ave. & the 101; and at Scottsdale Rd. & Shea Blvd.
